About Us
At FRODDO, we are dedicated to shaping the future of automated and connected mobility. As an EU-funded project, our focus is to create safer, smarter, and more adaptable transportation systems that address the challenges posed by increasingly complex road environments. Through the innovative use of advanced sensing technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital twin simulations, we aim to make automated driving a reality for all.
Our project unites some of Europe’s leading research institutes, industries, and authorities, working together to develop a resilient, secure, and scalable framework for automated vehicles and smart infrastructure. FRODDO not only enhances the technological aspects of automated mobility but also places user safety and societal impact at its core, ensuring that the solutions we create are both robust and trustworthy.
We believe that collaboration is key to innovation. That’s why we’re working closely with road authorities, operators, and industry stakeholders to deliver scalable and adaptable mobility solutions that can meet the diverse needs of modern societies.
The Ljubljana pilot tests a multi-modal user interface for automated vehicles using a motion-based driving simulator. Visual, auditory, and tactile alerts will be evaluated in simulated environments to enhance safety and user experience.
The Athens pilot tests localization methods and AI-assisted traffic management for ODDs in complex urban environments. Lab and real-world experiments assess model reliability, while simulations evaluate traffic optimization during special events.
The Modena pilot, led by Hipert SRL, tests advanced sensor technologies, including virtual mirrors and fleet management tools, to improve vehicle safety and traffic flow, with live demonstrations highlighting smarter, safer transportation innovations.
TOFAS will develop and test autonomous tow trucks (ATT) using a comprehensive methodology, digital twins, and cost-effective alternatives to GNSS, ensuring efficient operation in various environments and conducting tests at TOFAS' track.
Objectives
FRODDO seeks to revolutionize automated mobility with scalable operational design domains (ODDs), advanced sensing, and AI-driven decision-making for enhanced safety.
The project builds a federated digital twin for real-world testing, secure V2X communication for traffic management, and human-centric interfaces for driver awareness. FRODDO also aims to optimize traffic flow, reduce emissions, and contribute to sustainable, resilient transportation.
